Zodiac Signs by Month: All 12 Signs in Calendar Order
The whole year in one table: which one or two signs fall in every calendar month, and the two-day window where each handover actually sits. Written for people who came for the list rather than a reading.
Start with the table for the full year, then open the month you need. If your birthday falls on a switch date, check your exact birth year instead of relying on a fixed date range.

Spring: March, April, May
Summer: June, July, August
Fall: September, October, November
Winter: December, January, February
All 12 zodiac signs by month, in one table
Twelve signs and twelve months look as though they should line up neatly. They do not. Each sign holds the Sun for about thirty days, but a sign season begins during the third week of a calendar month. That leaves each month with the end of one sign and the beginning of the next.
The month links open the relevant month pages. The sign links open the sign pages, which contain the year-indexed boundary tables. The switch window shows the calendar dates on which the handover falls across the years covered by this site's table.
| Month | First sign | Switch window | Second sign |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | Capricorn | January 19-20 | Aquarius |
| February | Aquarius | February 18-19 | Pisces |
| March | Pisces | March 19-21 | Aries |
| April | Aries | April 19-20 | Taurus |
| May | Taurus | May 20-21 | Gemini |
| June | Gemini | June 20-21 | Cancer |
| July | Cancer | July 22-23 | Leo |
| August | Leo | August 22-23 | Virgo |
| September | Virgo | September 22-23 | Libra |
| October | Libra | October 22-23 | Scorpio |
| November | Scorpio | November 21-22 | Sagittarius |
| December | Sagittarius | December 21-22 | Capricorn |
March is the outlier: its Aries handover can fall on March 19, 20 or 21 because the equinox moves across those dates. Capricorn appears twice, at the bottom and top of the table, because its season crosses New Year's Day.
These are date windows, not claims that every birthday in the range needs a calculation. A birthday away from the switch is settled by its date. A birthday on a switch date needs the birth year, and sometimes the birth hour if the handover occurred that day. The zodiac sign calculator handles that check in your browser and stores nothing you type.
The dates here use US Eastern time. Farther east, the same instant may appear on the next calendar date. That is why two published charts can disagree about a boundary without either one being wrong.
Why every calendar month holds two signs

The tropical zodiac follows the seasons, not the calendar's first day. Zero degrees of Aries is tied to the Sun's position at the March equinox; the other eleven signs follow in thirty-degree steps. January 1, February 1 and the first day of every other month are calendar markers, not astronomical ones.
That creates the familiar offset of roughly three weeks. In the table, the switch dates move from the 18th through the 23rd, never reaching the start of a month.
Month length adds a smaller variation. February has 28 days and July has 31, while a sign season lasts somewhere between 29 and 31 days as Earth moves through its orbit. Earth travels faster in January than in July, so the signs covering the northern autumn and winter pass a little more quickly than the ones covering spring and summer. The signs cover equal angles, but not equal numbers of days.
For the traditional element, ruler and description of each sign, use All 12 signs in full. For the meaning of a Sun sign, see what a sun sign denotes. This page is narrower: it answers the calendar question.
The four months that open a season

Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn begin at the March equinox, June solstice, September equinox and December solstice. The other eight sign boundaries are thirty-degree points between those seasonal anchors.
The anchor months are March, June, September and December. Their handovers have the broadest legitimate date spread, with March reaching three dates instead of two.
The movement has a simple cause. A solar year is about six hours longer than a 365-day calendar, so each marker shifts later until a leap day pulls the schedule back. Why the boundary moves explains the cycle in detail.
The four signs that begin at these anchors are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. Traditional astrology calls them cardinal signs; the cardinal, fixed and mutable guide explains that classification.
Which page you actually need

Use the question, not the subject, to choose the next page.
- You want the month-level fact. Open that month's page from the table. It gives both signs, the switch window and the date ranges on either side.
- Your birthday falls on a switch date. Use the checker. The year determines the relevant boundary, so the tool asks for it before answering.
- You know the date but not the birth time. The boundary birthday walkthrough explains when the result can remain open until you find an official record.
- You want to read about a known sign. Start at all 12 signs for the traditional description, element, ruler and year-indexed dates.
- You came because of the word "cusp." Two signs, one Sun explains why a boundary birthday concerns timing, not a dual identity in the tropical system.
If you have a birthday but no month-specific question, the checker on the home page is the shortest route from the date to an answer.
What a month-level answer does not settle
October can tell you to look between Libra and Scorpio. It cannot describe a person, explain a decision or make a forecast, and I would not want it to pretend otherwise.
Traditional sign descriptions are symbolic language for entertainment and self-reflection, not measurements. A Sun sign is one placement in a larger chart. I do not read daily horoscopes. For me, the zodiac works better as a mirror for reflection than as a map of who someone must be. What astrology can and can't tell you summarizes what the research found.
The table uses the western tropical zodiac, which follows seasonal markers rather than visible star patterns. Date lists headed "the zodiac changed" usually belong to a different system; signs versus constellations explains the distinction.
The answer also does not change below the equator. The Sun enters a sign at one instant for everyone, so a southern-hemisphere birthday receives the same sign answer, even though the season is reversed.
