Zodiac Symbols and Glyphs for All 12 Signs

Here's every sign's symbol and glyph in one place, so you don't have to click through all twelve pages to find the one you're thinking of.

The table works in both directions: look up a sign to find its symbol and copyable character, or start with a symbol you saw and identify its sign.

If you want the wider reference material, visit zodiac basics. Otherwise, the answer should take about five seconds to find.

All 12 Zodiac Symbols and Glyphs

This table gives each sign's traditional symbol, typographic glyph, Unicode number, and a one-line account of what the symbol traditionally represents.

Sign Symbol Glyph Unicode Traditionally represents
Aries The Ram ♈ U+2648 First-through-the-gate, head-first energy; the curved lines are commonly read as the Ram's horns
Taurus The Bull ♉ U+2649 Steadiness, physical presence, persistence, and a reluctance to be pushed
Gemini The Twins ♊ U+264A Duality and two-of-a-kind energy: two perspectives held beside each other, echoed by the glyph's paired strokes
Cancer The Crab ♋ U+264B Named for Karkinos, the crab of the Greek telling; the glyph shows two curled shapes facing one another, evoking the claws
Leo The Lion ♌ U+264C Courage, the heart, and regal presence
Virgo The Maiden, also called the Virgin ♍ U+264D The harvest season between summer and the equinox, with a motif of discernment and careful separation
Libra The Scales ♎ U+264E The Scales of Justice held by Themis; the one inanimate symbol of the twelve, drawn as a beam above a resting base
Scorpio The Scorpion ♏ U+264F The creature itself; our Scorpio page deliberately attaches no myth it cannot source, and neither does this table
Sagittarius The Archer, depicted as a centaur with a bow ♐ U+2650 Instinct directed toward a distant aim
Capricorn The Sea-Goat, a goat with a fish tail ♑ U+2651 The climbing form is traditionally connected with ambition, discipline, and patience
Aquarius The Water-Bearer ♒ U+2652 Water poured from a vessel: the glyph's waves
Pisces The Two Fish ♓ U+2653 Paired movement and water symbolism

Every symbol, glyph, and description here is already published on that sign's own page, which is linked from its name. For a symbol-first search, use the alphabetical index in the next section.

Find the Sign by Its Symbol

Maybe you saw a crab on a necklace but couldn't remember whose symbol it was. I once wanted that same one-line answer and wound up opening several sign pages in a row, which is exactly the friction this index removes.

If you're looking for... The sign is Its glyph
Archer, also the Centaur Sagittarius ♐
Bull Taurus ♉
Crab Cancer ♋
Fish, two of them Pisces ♓
Lion Leo ♌
Maiden, also the Virgin Virgo ♍
Ram Aries ♈
Scales, also the Balance Libra ♎
Scorpion Scorpio ♏
Sea-Goat, a goat with a fish tail Capricorn ♑
Twins Gemini ♊
Water-Bearer Aquarius ♒

One useful distinction: Capricorn's Sea-Goat and Pisces' Two Fish both carry fish imagery, but only the Sea-Goat is half goat.

What a Zodiac Glyph Actually Is

A zodiac glyph is a typographic character. The twelve signs have long had shorthand marks in astrological writing, and the Unicode Standard encodes them in sign order from U+2648 through U+2653. That makes ♈, ♉, and the other ten ordinary text characters rather than little embedded pictures.

You can copy a glyph directly from the first table and paste it into a message or document. On a Mac, you can also find it through the emoji-and-symbols picker; on Windows, look in the emoji panel's symbols. Because the glyph is text, it generally takes on the size and color of the text around it.

The character stays the same, but its drawn shape comes from the font rendering it.

I have pasted a glyph into a different place and watched it appear with a slightly different shape, or as an empty fallback box when the font lacked that character (a tidy demonstration of the difference between a character and its drawing).

Our sign pages record a few traditional visual readings: Aries' curved lines as horns, Cancer's facing curls as claws, Gemini's joined strokes as a pair, Libra's beam over a base, and Aquarius' waves as poured water.

They record no comparable shape reading for the other seven, so I won't invent one.

These glyphs are a typographic convention with standardized Unicode characters, not astronomical symbols for the constellations. Put more plainly, signs are not the constellations, and these marks are neither a hidden code nor a sacred one.

The One Sign Whose Symbol Isn't a Creature

Libra is the exception in this set. Its symbol is the Scales, making it the only one of the twelve represented by an inanimate object; the other eleven are represented by creatures.

In the tradition, Libra's scales derive from the Scales of Justice held by Themis, the Greek figure associated with divine order and justice. That is the symbol's provenance, not a personality judgment. The fuller account belongs on the page for the Scales, astrology's one inanimate symbol.

Where the Full Symbol Story Lives

This page is an index: one line per sign, with the complete route collected in all twelve sign pages. Those pages carry the fuller stories rather than squeezing them into a lookup table.

For example, follow the Crab's full symbol story for the Greek telling behind its name, or the Libra link for the Scales. If your next question is how the signs are arranged, see every sign's position on the wheel.

What These Symbols Do and Don't Mean

The "traditionally represents" column records the symbolic vocabulary of a tradition. It is not a scientific finding about someone born under a sign, a prediction, or a personal verdict.

A symbol can carry a long history and still function as a label. Learning that the Crab belongs to Cancer tells you about the tradition's imagery, not about a person.

Myth vs. fact

Myth: "The glyph is an ancient secret code. If you could read it, it would tell you something."

Fact: It is a shorthand mark that became a standard text character. Unicode lets it behave like other characters you can copy and style. Readings such as horns, claws, or poured water are imagery attached to certain marks, not information hidden inside them.

Myth: "The zodiac glyph is the astronomy symbol for that constellation."

Fact: No. These are symbols for the twelve signs of western tropical astrology, while signs and constellations are different things.

Myth: "Your symbol says something about the kind of person you are."

Fact: It says what a tradition has long used as that sign's image. The symbolism may be interesting to consider, but it is not a description of you.

I don't read daily horoscopes. I like the zodiac as a mirror, not a map.

Frequently Asked Questions

What zodiac sign uses a crab as its symbol?

Cancer uses the Crab, and its glyph is ♋. The sign is named for Karkinos, the crab in the Greek telling; visit the Crab's full symbol story for the fuller account.

Which zodiac sign's symbol isn't an animal?

Libra is the only one. Its Scales are the sole inanimate symbol among the twelve, while every other sign is represented by a creature, including the Water-Bearer and the Archer.

Are zodiac glyphs actual letters?

They are text characters, not alphabet letters. The twelve symbols have individual Unicode codepoints from U+2648 to U+2653, which allows you to type, copy, paste, resize, and color them like text.

How do I copy a zodiac glyph into a text message?

Copy the character straight from the table, then paste it into your message. You can also use your device's symbol picker; as text, the glyph takes the surrounding text's size and color.

Why does the same zodiac glyph look different on my phone and my laptop?

The character is fixed, but each device's active font draws its shape. That can change small details, and a font lacking the required glyph may display an empty fallback box instead.

Does my sign's symbol say anything about my personality?

No. It is the traditional image assigned to that sign, offered as symbolic vocabulary for entertainment and self-reflection rather than a scientific finding, prediction, diagnosis, or description of anyone born under it.

Now that you know whose symbol you were looking at, choose its story from all twelve sign pages.
